Oddments

A variety of things

Brenda attempts to surmount Godzilla from the uphill side

Laurie and Jeffery are kings of the hill!

Jeffery's head is just visible atop Godzilla as seen from below

Tanker cars on the railroad

The longest view I could get

ladybugs

This stove's enamel has a opalescent sheen to it, seen just right

One of our metal yard ornaments, or really two, as the wheel in the background attests
(Can you tell I've been around Dan Santos?)

Monday Adventures

Every Monday, Brenda and I do our hike, just us girls out in the wild, and today we'd called a rain day, until the clouds departed early, and we decided to go after all.  I met her at Caribou Corner, and we walked the highway to Misery Bar, then down to the river gold mining claim, then up and out and back down to the car. I am sore tonight; whether from the rough footing down by the river, or from the highway flatness, or maybe because Brenda quick-marched me along the road, I don't know.  My miles-per-hour ratio was very good today, I must say.

The Jackass Creek Waterfall returns to Tobin

This is just part of what fell off the cliff at Mile Post 11

This is the slide at Mile Post 11, which had dumped bigger loads in years past.

an "artful" zoom shot of the slide pile

another day, another glimpse of the train through the Honeymoon tunnels

This boat is now full of rain water.  It sits a'ready down at Misery Bar

We call this Sam's waterfall, or Fountain Curve; just opposite the road down to Misery Bar

The long bit of rock wall edging the highway between Misery Bar and French Bar
Just for the fun of it, I show you what rain does to our canyon
Paul's Creek after the rain on Feb 9 - see below for comparison

Same shot taken on Jan. 28 and posted on this blog on Feb. 3

Three Fun Things

I went to town today, and saw these three pretty views.

I wonder what it is.

I wonder about this/these, too.

Now this, I know it's a choo-choo train engine; local railroad company

To Amuse my Mother during her recuperation

Here are a few local photos for your entertainment.  More of what seems like the same, only not quite, since every day is different from the last.

Paul's Creek - you can see up it farther in winter than in the leafy months

Pussy willow are furry, and up higher, they are greening out!  eek!

thought this was cool

one of my favorite views in the Canyon

The guaging station below the Rock Creek Dam with the waterfall corridor behind it

Tunnel and curve

close up of the guaging station

Erosion control devices - we've gotten used to them, but don't like the look

camping spot along Caribou Road

Pretty water, gnarly tree root

Himalayan primrose - I forget their real name.  Will update when I learn it.  Meanwhile, they're blooming in my garden!

In the center of this photo, slightly obscured by the middle tree, is a low-flying plane that passed BELOW us as we hiked up the mountain across from Tobin this morning.  The clouds promise much needed rain!
