President's - Valentine's Weekend

I don't know if all the fun can fit into one post, but I'll try.  Three days in Lake Tahoe area with Kyria and Jeffery, all with goodly exercise included.  I took no food photos, but we ate well, too.  I'll let the pictures tell it.

Met up at Brockway Summit to hike the Tahoe Rim Trail section

We've donned our snowshoes and started up the hill to the Lookout Point, a mile-and-a-half away

Kyria and Jeffery at the Lookout Point

Lake Tahoe in the background.  Our hotel is in the trees just left of Jeffery's hat brim.

My view back along where we came from.  I think that's Martis Peak in the background, which is another destination to achieve on another day.

the forest was full of these snow-humps, which I didn't remember seeing on the way up.  Seen from below, these are shown to be slash piles of gathered forest debris,

here's a better view

not much later, it looks like this

Jeffery and Kyria are in this photo, but I don't expect anyone to pick them out.  This was the first of the morning crowd.  It got a lot more crowded as the day passed.

low-center of picture; Kyria holds Jeffery's and her skis while he buckles his boots. She's blue backpack, he's blue coat.

Jeffery and I walked down to the beach (12 minutes from the hotel) to watch the sunset, which is already pinking the mountains

this is one of the views that will look different tomorrow morning when we go to watch the sunrise.  We are currently looking eastward.

other people are on the rocky piles strewn on the beach.  I was too scared to climb up on them

the sun sets to the west, and this view will be in tomorrow's shots, too

why is that boulder caught there?  Jeffery says glacier.

me in front of the last colors, which actually intensified a little more before fading, we saw as we hiked back up to the hotel.

oh my!  now it's really bright!

suddenly, the western peaks light up!

Kyria and I shared a mom-daughter snowshoe hike on the Pacific Crest Trail near Donner Summit.

on our way home, we spotted and checked out the Mohawk Cemetary near Graeagle

I was beat up and happy, to say the least.  What a great weekend and lovely visit in a beautiful place!
