I don't know much about major league rivalries, but I'd say the Giants vs. the Dodgers is pretty fierce. So it was a really fun game to go to; only the second home game of the season.
And, it was rainy. We stayed overnight with Kyria, took BART over to the Embarcadero, and hoofed it to the Ferry Building, and on to AT&T Park via the waterfront. We had umbrellas and ponchos, so it was all good; though we were a bit steamy in our giant plastic bags. Still, it was great to root, root, root for the Home Team, and even though we lost in the 10th inning, it was a Wonderful Day!
| Kyria let me borrow her Giants sweatshirt, so I'm ready to go |
| view from the BART train - Oakland |
| Jeffery in blue!!! How can I be seen with him, even when I adore him in blue. |
| up and out of the underground |
| one of the various old tram cars, or whatever they call them here |
| First destination, the Ferry Building |
| Reminds me of Kyria, Aila, Isabelle, and all the other self-dressed wee lassies |
| Tasty salted pig parts. Mmmm...... |
| here, have a pork jowl. just the words..... I can't go on..... |
| for $25 you can have this mushroom mini-farm |
| quite a reasonable price, it would seem; at least, for the Ferry Building |
| these mushrooms were Art in my opinion |
| I liked this building with the chef on the roof |
| Jeffery, Yerba Buena Island, The Bay Bridge, and a giant, wet rain cloud approaching fast |
| strange sculpture that lights up at night when you push the button |
| guess what this building is? haha |
| another tram or trolley car |
| I'm told the burgers are excellent |
| we're here! |
| we're really early arriving, so the place is empty and the field is covered against the rain. Our seat is straight across, along the first base line, second section from the left, row 9 |
| now we're across the field, and Jeffery is waving from our seats |
| view from behind home plate. The game was held up for almost an hour by rain |
| signs all around the seating areas, and we got to see a batter let a bat fly, and it was absolutely terrifying. Luckily, the net behind home plate caught the bat. |
| we were told you can pay to seat your group in these seats |
| they took the tarp off, but then the rains came on again |
| so they put the tarp back on |
| it was so nicely coordinated |
| I stepped out to have a smoke overlooking the Cove, and saw that folks were still arriving in large numbers |
| saw this sign, and realized that the fans were above me on the ramparts of the Park.... |
| the national anthem was sung by this 14 year old lass, and she did it proud |
| there she is in real life |
| as early arrivals, we received this "cool" Beat L.A. flag |
| Jeffery's poncho says New York City, and mine says Maid of the Mist. I got mine back when Fransje and John H. got married, and our litte family went to Niagara Falls |
| Dodger pitcher Kershaw warms up right in front of us |
| here's an action shot |
| and there's his adoring crowd to snap his photo |
| this is as close to Bumgarner, the SF pitcher, as we got, since the SF dugout is over on that side |
| the is Yasiel Puig, the Dodger right-fielder, who was loudly booed every time he came up to bat, we don't really know why, but we think it's cuz he's such a good player |
| check out how full the stand are now |
| I'm in this shot, way down in front to the right, and since we had aisle seats, it was so nice! |
| Last shot from outside center field as we head to go, just ahead of the crowds; so we didn't see SF get beat at the end. |
Sorry if I overwhelmed you, but this was only my third "real" baseball game in my life, and I love San Francisco, so I gave you my all.
