May Ends and June Begins

Here we are, almost to summer, and boy, can you tell.  The phrase "June is busting out all over" comes to mind as our world has gone from ravaged to lushly green and flowered in a seeming blink of an eye.  Here is the end of May and the first week of June.  What fun I've been having!  How lucky I am!
I'll start by taking you on my drive home from Santa Cruz via "the country" as opposed to the city.  I hope I don't wear you out!

For my Mom, a shot of the Aptos exit off Hwy 1, where her sister Ruth lived.

Sorry for the windshield debris.  I travelled in cool fog for quite a ways.

popped over one set of hills and left the fog behind

Loved the bathroom sinks

Up and over another set of hills to reach Hwy 5 in the big Valley

San Luis Reservoir was there in the middle of all these dry hills

Is this The West, or what?

This is the view, pretty much, for the rest of the way home, or at least until I reach the foothills of the Sierras

Okay, there was a huge Orange orchard in there somewhere south of Newman

it was pretty cool, really

Travellin' with the Trucks!

Memorial Day Weekend with Family!

Lily holds a prickly pinecone

Jeffery and I met up with the ladies on Yellow Creek

They worked on a little pool for non-swift water bathers

Lily kept my grandma's heart thumping as she wandered over the slippery rocks

Kelly was brave, and before Memorial Day, too; as is our custom

Jeffery and Aila also brave the frigid waters, which make you feel clean and refreshed.

We celebrated Jeffery's 60th birthday with his Mom, who brought the surprise strawberry shortcake.

sister-time to settle down with a movie

Aila braves a ride down the hill in Bigfoot with Uncle Jeffery

Kara fulfills a bucket list wish; to drive a tractor

A true tractor babe!

I was nervous at the tipping, until they swung the backhoe over to balance the tractor.

Seen on the car of a lady flagger at a road construction stop.

pretty purple on the Indian Springs trail

lovely complete snakeskin; I didn't even flinch!

Indian Hill and Ben Lomond

Poison Oak bush all pretty with berries

Notice the poison oak in this picture?

These grasses danced in the lightest breeze and "twinkled" their little "bells".  I also think they were where the tick leaped on me as I felt their softness

View of Belden from the trail

One of the Chinese buildings on Broderick St. in Oroville

One of the display rooms at the Oroville Chinese Temple (with glass reflection at right)

This old lantern was covered in cotton gauze and painted, and over the years, the weight of it made it go from round to oblong.

The other side of the room

The Moon Temple display

Oh, how I wanted to get closer, much closer to see this.

puppets and museum pieces

loved the desk and the kimono

A new drum on display since I was last here.

Final bit; the "I learned something new today" photo.  Carnegie endowed a library in Oroville California!  Wow.
