The Belden Cemetary after the Dixie Fire

Today, I ventured up the hill from the Belden Rest Area, and went to check on the Belden Cemetary.

I will have to do some research to see what did NOT survive the fire, (and I feel guilt for not remembering now) but I was gratified to see how many plots still had their monuments.  I will show you my trip.

The view of the Belden Resort from the start of the Indian Springs Trail

Climbing into the open.

The view of the hill above the grave plots.

This sign survived, although it's charred at its base.

Looking up the gully that in rainy times, hosts a tiny creek

I'm informed that F2 trees are going to come down, and F1's come down immediately.

Jim and Gloria's headstones as I find them

I cleaned them with my hands, so a whisk-brooming would show them more clearly.

Jim and Gloria's from the side

Fred's marker looked good.

Ah, I spy more headstones ahead!

It's Frank and Robert

Morgan

Beloved pup

This area was black when the fire first went through, but already, the landscape is being covered with pine needles and leaves and sticks, so it almost seems normal.

Looking back from the last plot.

The ravine.

A melted tree.

Under the melted tree is the Belden Family markers - the Three Roberts

Spruced it up a bit.

Two craters lie along the trail down to my car; trees that were cut down before which have now finished burning out after several fires.

And in the middle of that moonscape resides new life!
