The graduation of Ian, our nephew

I picked Uncle Jeffery up at the Reno Airport, and we enjoyed the drive down Hwy 80 to Truckee.  Jeffery particularly appreciated the clear, good-smelling air.  At Truckee High, many loved ones were there to see Ian get his diploma, with a party at Craig and Darlene's home later.  U.J. and I spent the night there, and had a nice visit.  This morning, Jeffery even took a run along the shores of Donner Lake.  Then I took him back to Reno, and put him off at the airport.

still some snow, which surprised us, considering how little we got this past winter.

On the way home, I decided to capture the image of a "landmark".  We were saved with gas one late night many years ago when we stopped here to wake up the residents, who woke another farmer with a supply of diesel.

The last day there and the first day here

On Tuesday, I got up, mailed my overflow home, went to Penn Station and bought my ticket over to New Jersey ahead of time, and then took a last wend around a piece of Central Park.  As I walked back to the hotel from Rockefeller Station, I really looked at the people I passed or bumped or skirted, and it was a bittersweet feeling to think of leaving the liveliness of the City.  Then, packed up and ready; I headed via the E train back to Penn Station to catch my NJ Transit train, and then the bus, to the Newark airport, to fly home to be shuttled to the hotel where I left my car, so I could drive to the hotel I would be staying at. Phew!  Today I drove home via the grocery store. Simple as pie, only, I had to drive myself and fill my tank with gas, instead of swiping my Metrocard and riding to my destination.

At Penn Station, there is a mechanical moving contraption in a glass enclosure.  This is one of the moving sections

Here's the "center" that stays still, and another moving section, which says "We've nothing to fear when Washington's near"

Sunday and Monday in New York City

Jeffery and I headed out on Sunday to go to the Cloisters, but we only made it to 5th Avenue, where the Puerto Rican Parade blocked our path and lured us to partake of the fun.  We ended up watching it, and then headed over to Central Park to walk, and lie on the grass, and watch the world go by.  Later, we took more walks, and saw the sights that come out when darkness falls.

Here is 5th Ave., where we were prevented from crossing

this small group shows how colorful the parade route was, with everyone waving flags, paraders and spectators alike

police were everywhere, mostly to help direct human traffic along the parade route

Jeffery got me some pretty beads to wear to show support

the grey-haired fellow was stirring the crowd for his photographs.  here he was, instructing them to cheer and wave flags

we got so hot, we needed the relief of an italian ice

We had to ride the Central Park merry-go-round!

Jeffery sat in the sun to finish reading "Dr. Jekkyl and Mr. Hyde"

This is me, squished into the train on our way back from Belmont, but I use it to end my time in New York, to say "Oh no, I have to leave Jeffery and get on a plane!!"
