A Visit in Maryland

I went down to see Debby, my step-mom, and Phil, on Thursday.  Jeffery came for a briefer stay.  I've not been in Maryland in August since I was a youth.  Everywhere is green, green, green.  If it's not jungle or pavement, it's lawns.  I can't get over how many lawnmowers must run on an average week, just in Debby's neighborhood alone; much less all the highway verges, etc.
Here are some views!

Odd water-wall art at our Courtyard Hotel

The bus stop for the Megabus

the view from my seat as the bus prepares to depart for Baltimore

Lincoln Tunnel, which is so skinny, it makes me wonder how people manage to drive through it.

Debby and her classmates really get a workout in Howards class

Ice tea; LOTS of ice; and the souvenier ashtray Dad and Debby got, so many years ago.

I arrived the day after Deb's birthday, so I got to see all her cards!

mist along the Little Gunpowder River, where we walked the rail-trail; 3 miles in one hour

Debby and Phil

the Milton Inn, established 276 years ago!

note the Ostrich Carpaccio on the menu

and here it is; my first taste of ostrich.  It's brown, like duck.

veal scallopini

creme brule; the top crust was thin, crisp, and see-through, like isenglass.  (sigh of pleasure)

at the cafe before touring the Ladew Topiary Gardens and House

You eat in the stable, at a table in the stalls if you'd like

zinnias always remind me of my Aunt June and the little Farm

we want to espaliere things like they did here!

Topiary fox and hound Hunt.  View Hallooooooo!

The Ladew House, and one of the many huge and wonderful birdhouses

one of my favorites; the Pink Garden

Peace!

Can't you just see it at Christmas time?

at the bottom of Jeffery's favorite creek garden was this lovely japanese area

Debby puts out the feeders each morning

At Debby's pool club.  I can't help but laugh at Phil and Debby's water-distorted tiny legs.

me at the pool; not flashing my white legs
