Once More into the Breach - Day Two

Here is the next day of my trek through the foothills of central California; where I get lost and find myself in Murphys and am glad to have done it.  I really liked this gold-country area!

Tuolumne County Museum on my brisk morning walk around Sonora

Fun windows

The Catholic Church.  I had to get this close to avoid having electrical power lines in my shot.

I'm a dog lover, so......

County Courthouse

Methodist Church

Fun Victorian house

colorful flora

Morning light on the dentist's mansion details

Explanation re: the Sonora Inn-Hotel

The White Dome sits above town, but is currently idle, despite many efforts to fill it with activity.  I did learn that the local radio station broadcasts from the basement of this building.

Architectural art-shot

Do you feel like you're falling down these stairs?  I had to cling to the railing.

New Melones Lake

and from a bit farther back

I like the way the rocks stick out in highlight

Back to Calaveras County.  I liked this sign of theirs

Spontaneous decision to check out the Natural Bridge after spotting the sign.  Don't know how far it is, but it's all down hill.

The forest deepens as I descend.

Overlooking the south opening of the Natural Bridge.

I must go down the steps to get to the creek

I'm at the opening!

Looking into the opening

Same view only light-adjusted for the interior.

Very weird rock drippings inside

After an overland hike, I come to the way down to the north opening, but it's slippery rock and very steep, so I hesitate.

Smooth rock creek bed, which is so different-seeming from the "cave" interior

There's the north opening, and some college students who came to study it from Columbia College

Zoom on the texture

Coming back up and out, I spy this lit tunnel

Brilliant color spot

Got lost, turned east instead of west, and discovered Murphys, a town I will return to explore for sure

Still trying to get out of Murphys, I know I've gone wrong when I see this sign.  We are expecting snow!

The pass will stay closed until Spring.

This frog is for my mother, even tho' it's not really jumping.

Angel's Camp- where the Jumping Frog of Calaveras County is famous

The jumping frog emblem

Jeffery's ancestor, I'm told, was Black Bart

Mokelumne Hills church

The IOOF hall

Churches in Jackson

Took a side road and found the Serbian Church and graveyard.  (and obnoxious power lines, dammit)

This church is on the National Historic Register

Back out into the big central valley

Round barn

Had to check out why the ground had such funny shapes sticking up at Michigan Bar Rd.

Turns out, this was a gold diggin's, and these are the piles of rock left behind

The road leads on to........

Signs of industry

Statues adorn the fence posts.  This is only one side of the gateway.  The other side is the same

They are burning off the rice fields before flooding them.
Well, there you go.  I don't know where I'll go next, but I sure do need to get up the north coast.  I'm hoping Jeffery and I can do that together.
