High Sierra Music Festival 2016 - Part 1

It was another scorching hot and magically wonderful Festival over the weekend, and we are tired but happy on this Independence Day as we rest up from our revelries and try to get back to normal life.  I know you've seen these kinds of pictures in years past, but I'll offer some from this year anyway.

Jeffery gets in at  the end of the line well before the wrist-banding begins at 7 a.m. but the line is already long.

We meet up with Lisa T. in the white top as the line grows behind us.  Once the ticket gate opens, the line moves fast.

the R.V.'s wait to enter the Fairgrounds

For the first time ever, I rode the Shuttle in to the event, so that we could secure our tent space.  We'd already tossed our chairs and tents over the fence, and I needed to make sure we could stay there.  Jeffery didn't get in until after 9 a.m., whereas I was there, setting up by 8:15 or so.
Jeffery saw several cars towed out of "illegal" parking places

He also watched the Entry of the Motorhomes

Tah dah!  We are in, and there's our alley between the stable buildings that is so familiar to us.  Sigh of relief and joy.

Jeffery has arrived and helped set up the standard decorated camp

the Front Gate of the Fairgrounds

our first show; The first show of 2016; in the Vaudeville tent

the group Sessions Americana, who we later saw in the more intimate Krewe d Roux camp

The Accidentals were next at the Big Meadow stage.

These three young people (only the drummer had hit 21 years of age) were one of my top five shows.  The Accidentals.  Be on the lookout for them.  They were amazing.

Funk'n Jamhouse

The Soul Rebels

Gene Evaro Jr. was a surprise delight.  I also googled the phrase on the foreground t-shirt and found out that it means Primus is really good.
Liz Vice sang us gospel type songs with her beautiful voice

the day is still young, the Festival just begun, and there's a break in the music.  Here's the view from the shade in the Vaudeville Tent.

Keep Smiling

I had really wanted to see Xavier Rudd, and he didn't disappoint.

He performed some really cool, interesting music.

He "blew us away" with his (we assume) electric digereedoo.

Jeffery and I share a Guiness at our camp, and some snacks, as we cool off before the last wanderings of the evening.  No more photos of Thursday, so I'll end here for now with the information that we retired early that first night, having walked nearly 7 miles for the day.
More fun and fantastica to come!
