It was another great, great year at the Festival in Quincy. Hot as heck, but with a pleasant breeze blowing through. Lots of wonderful music, lots of friends to visit and sights to see and good food. Lots of smiles and hugs and laughter. We took our Saturday shower, breakfast, and visit with Sara, which is always part of the weekend entertainment tradition. And, we did things we'd never done before, like Silent Frisco, tight-rope walking, and even fringing the morning kick-ball game.
This year, we joined a Scavenger Hunt created by one of the camping groups down near the Vaudeville Tent. With nearly 200 items to locate, the Hunt kept us so busy, we almost missed the music! It was made easier by our stint as Quincy Community Ambassadors, which is our annual walk-about being local good-will emissaries. The Hunt was SO MUCH FUN!! I can't express the joy. It was a ticket into everyone's camp, and an opening to peoples' delightful participation. And we, the Tobin Trojan team; made up of Jeffery, me, and Dave Mitchell, were the Winners!!!!! We're donating our winnings to the lovely Fair folk who kept our bathrooms well stocked and clean through the event.
Robert Plant was fabulous, but there were many enjoyable bands/artists there. We give top marks to Sarah Jarosz, the California Honeydrops, Lucas Nelson and POTR, the Barr Brothers, Allen Stone, The Melodic, and the Jelly Bread/Carolyn Wonderland Gospel set. Bands like Primus, Thievery Corporation, Revivalists, and North Mississippi Allstars were stand-outs as well, offering true Festival Music to weird out on.
Here are a few (ha ha) photos, mostly of things caught during our Scavenger Hunt. We did get a great camp spot behind "our" stable, which was a big relief, so from that point on, we could relax and enjoy. If only we could capture the constant happiness on film!
