Jeffery's Unwinding Part One - Day One

I may overwhelm you with photos from Jeffery's voyage of debriefing.  After 7 months of life in NYC, this trip down Hwy 395 and hither and yon was the very thing he needed, as he illustrates through the pictures he took!  Here, let me show you:

Leaving Plumas County

Had to stop at REI in Reno for a few things, most importantly, a bear canister for food to go in to inside the backpack.

Jeffery has turned off of 395 and is headed in to Devil's Postpile and Mammoth Mountain.  He said his destination is in the valley-cut he's above in the photo

I would love to pave my world with these!

Rainbow Falls, which looks small, but is over 100 feet tall.

Can you find Jeffery?

the wavy sections give you an idea of the strange formation that is this postpile.  How did it form like this?

I'll give you these, and put up more right away.  Tomorrow, Jeffery heads to Mt. Whitney to meet up with the kids and hike to the top.

Just a Few More from the Home world

Here are some places I've been in the last day or two

where the weir once were.  I'm told further clean-up of the stream-bed is being done.

the North Fork is back in its usual bed

Sara shared some begonia starts with me

At the Belden Cemetary, along the Indian Springs Trail, Jim and Gloria's headstones lean towards eachother with the same love they showed in life.  I'm glad to have known them.

A few local photos

Jeffery and I went up to Quincy last week, and here's what we saw while there.  I definitely want to go bike riding on Chandler Rd. and Oakland Camp Rd. again!

I love big equipment, and I love to watch it work, too.

log stacks in Quincy, at the Sierra Pacific Mill

This is just one of the many log stacks.  I was surprised to see how much wood is stored here.

another piece of equipment lifts and moves the logs

Peddling down Oakland Camp Rd.

sexy man!  Spanish Creek crossing

It's been decades since I came this far down the road.

Now I await Jeffery's return from Mt. Whitney while I act out my "elvish" self in his absence.  (sounds of giggling can be heard, and is that a faint sleigh bell?)

Jeffery comes home to do regular things!

I headed up to get Jeffery from the Reno Airport.  He thought that our little international airport was really nice.  Perhaps it's because it's so small and convenient.  After I got him home and let him get settled, we started meeting up with folks, taking practice hikes before he heads to Mt. Whitney, and having regular life at home.

Pretty scene on the way to Reno

trippy view through my window as I head up Hwy 395

There's Jeffery!

Jeffery reviews his mountaineering gear ahead of time.

blurry photo of Matt and Wendie, but it's the only one I got of Wendie, except when swimming

Matthew proves his mettle, too
I like this one of Kyria and Wendie, due to the white foam "mermaid's tails" they seem to have

The Monday Girls Hike was joined by boys!  We hike up the Rock Creek Road, Jeffery practicing with carrying his pack
Sara has to carry Roxie up the rougher parts of the road

Apples!

Jeffery enjoys the old-fashioned fun of picking apples from our own tree!
A few more later in a seperate post; to make room for Jeffery's photos when he returns from his mountaineering adventure.
