Okay, he woke up in Mammoth, and now Jeffery will head to Lone Pine and the Alabama Hills before he goes to Whitney Portal to grab a camp spot for him and the kids. Then, they will hike up Mt. Whitney.

| town sign |
| blurry shot, but I had to show the mural on the side of the Movie Museum |

| the sign says it all |
| a bit blurry, but Jeffery and I decided we liked the effect, and he really liked the tree, so here it is for your viewing pleasure. |
| the road to where you can pose in the same views that were in so many of the old western movies! |
| Jeffery on a rock, the Arch Rock in the Alabama Mountains |
| another cool rock shape |
| the reason for bear canisters for food, and bear lockers, too. No food in your car! |
| another hazy but excellent view, with Mt. Whitney in the slightly right-of-center back, to the right of those two funny-topped columns |
| The Alabama Hills, yep, just little red knobs; seen from the Whitney Portal Road. Pretty bleak country-side, eh? |
| Jeffery's overnight camp area. He slept in his truck the entire trip. You can see the bear-proof trash bins next to the truck |

The bear bins, where you put all food out of your truck NO MATTER WHAT. |
| Jeffery weighs his pack, which was 45 pounds that he had to carry up the hill. |
| my kids love eachother! |
| Jeffery starts up the hill, Coors can included. |
| The trek begins. I love how you can see how fast the hill falls away behind Kyria and Matt |
| cool "bridge" |

| photo moment! |
| find the path they will take. It's right there in plain sight. Yeah. Right. |
| frozen people purifying water in the bitter wind |
| The tent they will share, tied down every way possible to keep it from flying away in the wind. |
That's it for today. I'm putting them to bed, and will return in the morning, when they are supposed to summit, but will wisely decide not to get blown off the mountain in the wind.
